Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel is a progressive synagogue dedicated
to Torah (lifelong learning), Avodah(spiritual growth), G'milut Chasadim(acts of lovingkindness) and Kehilah (community-building).
Welcome to the website for Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel, Idaho's
historic Jewish community and the home of liberal Judaism in Idaho! As the
longest continuously operating Synagogue located west of the Mississippi, we
are proud of our traditional, blended heritage which has evolved in Boise
since 1895, when our Synagogue was built. Our congregation is composed of a
diverse population, including many interfaith couples and those new to Idaho.
Many of our members have settled here from other parts of the country, and
they are comforted to find a congregation in which connections are easily
made and a surrogate family soon takes root.
Our congregation has an egalitarian spirit and is a vibrant living community
of people who care about each other, our environment, education and social
issues. In October of 2003 we moved our historic synagogue to a new site
and built a new multipurpose building next to it. We joyously moved into our
restored and new facilities on March 12, 2004 and dedicated the
buildings on Lag B'Omer -
May 8, 2004. We welcome you to visit and check us out. We hope our web site
information will give you additional insight into our community and its many
facets.
